A brief description of my new project (06/17)

It’s been a long time since I thought I’d tackle a new novel, but with Dead Winter soon to be on its way, I thought the time was right to jump into a new story, meet some new characters and explore a whole new world.

For those of you who know me, and are familiar with my work, you know I favor YA horror, fantasy and urban fantasy. With this project, I’ll be stepping out of my comfort zone and doing an adult book. Yeah, you heard me right, I’m finally growing up a bit, but a lot of the themes and content I want to do are most definitely not YA. So this is going to be a bit of a challenge for me.

Do you want to hear the premise? Of course you do! You wouldn’t be here otherwise, right? Let’s jump right into it, okay?

Ten years ago, humanity discovered they shared their world with a race designated Homo Nocturnis, vampires. Since that revelation, they’ve done everything in their power to exterminate what they see as a threat to mankind’s greatness. To do this, they’ve trained groups of people in each city to hunt and eradicate the beasts. These so-called Slayers are armed with powerful weapons made of silver with which to execute their grisly duty.

Autumn Rize took an intern position in the mighty Slayer division under the assumption that once she was done with college, she’d be promoted to a desk job helping to hunt the world’s greatest threat, vampires.  When a mandatory training assignment turns violent, Autumn gets to see how far the Slayers must go to protect humanity. Her resolve shaken, she shuffled through class after class at the university, until she meets Cece Joiner and realizes a horrible secret, Cece might just be one of them.

Can Autumn move past the hate, propaganda and fear long enough to learn about her new friend and her race or will she use that relationship to further the Slayer cause and take a vicious gang of killers off the streets? Whatever fate has in store, she will never be the same again. Sometimes, as the saying goes, ignorance is truly bliss…

So, let me know what you think. If you’d like to know the general themes or motivations behind the book, let me know and I’ll share them.
